Terms of Service
Effective 11 August 2026
Welcome to Family Linkage. These terms describe the deal between you and us when you use familylinkage.com. We wrote them to be readable. The short version: build your tree, your data stays yours, be decent to the people in it.
1. Who we are
Family Linkage ("we", "us") runs the family tree service at familylinkage.com. You can always reach us at contact@familylinkage.com.
2. Agreeing to these terms
By using Family Linkage you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the service. If you use Family Linkage for an organization, you confirm you may accept these terms on its behalf.
3. The service
Family Linkage lets you build family trees, invite relatives to view or suggest changes through share links, and export your tree. Some features are free and some belong to paid plans, as described on our pricing page. We keep improving the service, which means features can change, and we will not remove core abilities from a plan you paid for without telling you first.
4. Your account
You can try Family Linkage without an account. An account keeps your trees saved to your name. Keep your sign-in details safe: what happens under your account is your responsibility. You must be at least 16 years old, or the age of digital consent where you live, to create an account.
5. Plans, billing, and cancelling
Paid subscriptions are billed through Stripe, monthly or annually, and renew automatically until you cancel. You can cancel anytime from your billing portal and you keep your plan until the end of the period you paid for. If we change a price, we tell you before it affects you.
The Business plan is agreed individually. Its price, scope, and any custom file-format work are set out in writing between you and us, and those written terms complete these ones.
6. Your content is yours
Everything you add to a tree (names, dates, places, photos, relationships) belongs to you. You give us only the permission we need to run the service: to store your content, back it up, and show it to the people you share it with. We do not sell your content, and we do not use it for advertising.
7. Information about other people
A family tree is mostly about people other than you. Only add information you have the right to share, and be considerate with details about living people. If someone in your tree asks you to remove their information, do it. If they ask us, we may remove it or ask you to. Business customers working with legal or medical information are responsible for having a lawful basis for that work.
8. Share links
A share link is a key: anyone who has it gets the access it grants, view or edit. You are in control of your links. Your dashboard shows every link you created and how often it was opened, and you can revoke any link at any time. A revoked link stops working immediately. Choose carefully who you send links to; we cannot know who is holding a link you passed on.
9. Acceptable use
Do not use Family Linkage to:
- break the law, or store content that is unlawful where you or we operate;
- harass, deceive, or impersonate people;
- upload content you have no right to use;
- probe, overload, or interfere with the service or other people's trees;
- resell or scrape the service without our written agreement.
10. Availability
We work to keep Family Linkage fast and available, and we do not promise it will never be down. Export your tree when it matters to you; that is what export is for. If we ever decide to shut the service down, we will give you time and a way to take your data with you.
11. Ending things
You can stop using Family Linkage and delete your trees or your account at any time. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms, and we will tell you why unless the law prevents it. After an account is closed, we delete its content as described in our privacy policy.
12. Liability
Family Linkage is provided as is. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect damages, lost profits, or lost data, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
13. Changes to these terms
When we change these terms we update the date at the top, and for meaningful changes we let you know inside the product or by email before they take effect. Using the service after a change means you accept the new terms.
14. Contact and law
These terms are governed by the law of the country where the operator of Family Linkage is established, without affecting mandatory consumer protections where you live. Questions, notices, and complaints all go to contact@familylinkage.com.
